For a long time Afghanistan economy has been hindered by unceasing wars and unstable political situation in the country. To keep on breathing at least, the country’s economy had no other way as to become dependent on foreign assistance. Fortunately, Afghanistan economy has started recovering and developing. The worst times are in the past.

Some time in the past Afghanistan was known to be a country with great agricultural resources. The production of food was enormous. Thus, not only could the country have enough supplies to feed its population, but it also was an exporter of food. It should be said that the government of the country has taken different steps aimed at recovering of the economy.

Nowadays, Afghanistan is considered to be one of the poorest countries in the world. The main issue, that had to be dealt with for developing the economy, was fighting poverty. To facilitate with purpose, there was launched a project under the name of British Geological Survey (BGS). The funding of the project was provided by UK Department for International Development (DFID). It presupposed inward investments and the development of commerce and infrastructure. In addition, it served as an alternative source of income. It is known that the country has large resources of such minerals as copper, gold, iron ore and gemstones as well. The resources can provide wealth for the economy of Afghanistan. The country has already set out for creating a market-based economy.

The big attention is paid to the development of infrastructure in the country. Thus, there was a rise in investments in education, healthcare and other spheres. Afghanistan government has also made attempts to enhance power generation and reconstruct state institutions.

The development of the economy has been imperiled by the unsatisfied situation with educational institutions.

The conflicts, that had been going on and on for many years, have resulted in the devastated system of education. However, there has been seen a positive trend recently. Today over six million children attend schools. Higher education is also undergoing changes. Those Afghans who have got their experience in the West, have been welcomed by the country as there is lack of competent personnel in the country.

Of course, it will take time for the economy to become stronger and more stable. However, the development of the economy is possible if the investments and funding are properly distributed. There have been taken measures by the government of the country to secure the security of the nation. Thus, having enhanced assistance, funding and security, Afghanistan will be able to establish a democratic, market-based economy.
