Belize is said to be a country with an upper middle-income. Its total surface area is about 22,970.0 square kilometers.

Belize GDP was $832.0 million in comparison with $1.1 billion. Annual GDP growth decreased from 12.3% in 2000 to 4.2% in 2004. The inflation has risen during these 5 years up to 2.6%.

When analyzing social factors we observe the changes in total population. In 2000 there were 249.8 thousand people in Belize. Though the year of 2004 showed the indicator of 282.6 thousand. In other words, annual population growth could be expressed as 3.2% in 2004 when comparing to 2.7% in 2000.

Life expectancy at birth was about 72.2 years though in 2004 the indicator manifested 71.9 years. Here, one can consider the increase of school enrollment (primary and secondary as well), and also primary completion rate rose up to 103.3% of relevant age group. Mortality rate (under 5), on the contrary, has decreased from the number 41.0 per 1,000 to 38.6 in 2004. One should say that some improvements in the social economy of Belize are observed.
